Melissa takes all this into consideration and applies a holistic approach to her care. It's important to learn what is driving your symptoms to alleviate them.
Are you having SI joint pain and other treatments have not given long lasting relief?
Many times SI joint pain is a symptom being driven by somewhere else in the body. It's important to look at the body as a whole to find the driver of your symptoms. The symptoms can be coming from an old ankle sprain, knee injury, back, rib cage or neck.
Melissa does not look to joints "out of alignment" instead she assesses the end feel of each of the joints looking for restricted movement. She also looks for muscle and fascia restrictions that may be hold you in patterned movements. She then provides a few exercises to change the patterned movement, so you get longer relief.
Are all the tests negative, leaving doctors without answers to your symptoms? This can leaving feeling frustrated, disappointed and not understood. Especially, when the medical doctor can't give you answers and makes you feel like this is all in your head. As a physical therapist, when the tests are negative, then we know your body holds the answers.
We LISTEN to you
We LOOK at how you move
We PALPATE (touch) your body to assess muscles, fascia and joint mobility or restrictions.
We put all that together to find the right treatment for you.
Are you looking for care with a more holistic approach?
Melissa found that treatment in the traditional manor of only addressed the physical symptoms was not enough. She began searching for answers. This lead her to understanding how the body holds memories, feeling and trauma. Our nervous systems are designed to protect us, but it can become over protective. By acknowledging this protection and releasing these feeling, a person can find full healing. Melissa does not believes she replaces other providers but can play a role identifying what the body may be holding and holding you back from full recovery. This has led Melissa to include Dolphin Vagal Nerve Stimulation (VNS) as part of her care. In research it has shown to reduce muscle tension
Caused by stress and anxiety
Inflammation
Compromised circulation muscle tension

You are in the right place!
While these symptoms are very common, you should NOT feel like you need to live the rest of your life with them.
Doctors can usually only offer medication or surgery. Physical Therapist have been offering "Women's Health" Physical Therapy for over 45 years. Yet many OB/GYN, Urologist and Primary Care Physicians simply do not know or understand the benefits that a specially trained pelvic floor physical therapist can bring to healing. Unfortunately, their lack of awareness can leave you without answer and feeling like it's "women's hysteria" and advise you to seek mental health counseling. Don't get me wrong, mental health counseling in conjunction with other care can be a big asset to addressing your concerns from a body~mind~spirit approach.
